Henry County Court Record Requests
Ask which office holds the record, not just whether it is public. Mike Wilson, the Henry County Circuit Court Clerk, keeps Circuit, General Sessions, and Juvenile dockets, filings, dispositions, notices, and court-of-record minutes. Equity work travels elsewhere. Probate, estates, trusts, divorce, adoption, guardianship, conservatorship, and partition matters usually go to Albert Wade, the Clerk and Master. Citations written in Paris or another municipality stay put. They leave only if the case moved into county court.
Henry County court case records reach the public through several channels. The Henry Online Court Records System offers a public index. You can also call the clerk. View an available record at the counter, or mail a request to the correct office. The county publishes its public-records policy as well. No clerk-specific upload form or copy-delivery email exists. Ask before sending private data or payment electronically.
- Identify the court, case type, party role, approximate year, and case number if known.
- Use TnCIS to locate an index entry, or call the likely clerk when no result appears.
- Ask for a docket search, named filed document, ordinary copy, or certified copy. These are different products.
- Choose inspection, counter pickup, or mail after the custodian confirms the available method.
- Confirm redaction, page, certification, archive, and postage costs before paying.
Henry County Records Access Ladder
A search hit is only the first rung of a Henry County court record. Basic TnCIS access may show the party, filing year, case number, court, case type, status, or disposition. Docket detail comes next: events, filings, lawyers, added parties, fees, settings, and printable reports. Official AOC training material notes that some Rule Docket, Print Court Docket, and scanned-document functions require a subscription.
The third rung is the filed or certified record held by the custodian. Getting a complaint, indictment, motion, exhibit, final order, transcript, or certified judgment takes real work. The process may involve inspection, a copy request, payment, redaction, or court approval. The TnCIS terms are blunt on this point. Portal data is general public-service information. It can change. It is not the clerk's official record. Use the index to frame a precise request. Then turn to the originating Henry County clerk for the official copy.
| Level | Typical content | Best source |
|---|---|---|
| Index | Case identity, court, type, year, status | Henry TnCIS |
| Docket detail | Events, filings, fees, settings, parties | Portal detail or clerk |
| Official file | Pleadings, orders, exhibits, certified copies | Record custodian |
Kinds of Court Records
Henry County court case records sort by court and subject. Circuit files hold civil trial matters, felony and other criminal trial work, judgments, and minutes. General Sessions covers lower-level criminal matters, preliminary proceedings, small claims, and limited civil cases. Juvenile records run through the Circuit clerk structure. They carry strict access limits. Chancery records follow a separate path through the Clerk and Master.
Name the exact item when you ask. A docket sheet is not the same as every document behind it. Common targets include:
- case indexes, docket histories, and disposition records;
- complaints, petitions, answers, motions, and indictments;
- signed orders, judgments, and court-of-record minutes;
- probate, estate, trust, property, and eligible domestic-relations records;
- transcripts, recordings, or exhibits when retained and releasable.
The County Clerk is a different office entirely, handling vehicle titles, marriage licenses, business tax, licenses, and county minutes. A trial-court request sent there can stall your search. State appellate activity also sits outside Henry TnCIS and belongs in Tennessee Public Case History.
Henry County Record Custodians
The split clerk system is the main Henry County records trap. Mike Wilson's office is the practical starting point for Circuit and General Sessions criminal or civil cases. It routes work for Juvenile Court too. Albert Wade's office handles Chancery. That court spans probate and estate work plus adoption, divorce, parenting, support, conservatorship, guardianship, real-estate, partition, tax-sale, and other equity matters.
One name can appear in more than one court, so give the legal role and subject. An estate filed around 2022 points to the Clerk and Master. A General Sessions misdemeanor with a 2024 citation points to Wilson. Need only existence, parties, status, a setting, or disposition? Ask for a public docket search. Need an order, judgment, motion, or complaint? Say filed documents. That wording helps the clerk separate an index inquiry from copy work.

Court Records: What They Contain
The TnCIS result shows only part of the story. An official Henry County court record can hold far more than the screen displays. The docket gives ordered activity. The filed papers supply the claims, responses, evidence, and rulings behind those entries. Some fields or documents may be withheld, sealed, or redacted. A blank download area means little. It does not mean the court never received the document.
| Case number | The court reference; TnCIS help says the final numeric part of a formatted number such as 99GS1-2023-CR-12345 may work in search. |
|---|---|
| Docket sheet | Chronological filings, settings, orders, and disposition events. |
| Pleadings | Complaints, petitions, answers, motions, indictments, or other filed papers. |
| Orders and judgments | Signed judicial directions and decisions resolving issues or the case. |
| Parties and lawyers | Public names and roles, subject to sealing and redaction rules. |
| Exhibits or media | Filed material only when retained and available under current court rules. |
A disposition is the recorded result, not a full narrative. A setting, likewise, is a scheduled event rather than proof it happened as first planned. When the outcome matters, read the final order and the later docket entries.
Henry County Historical Record Search
Paper came first in Henry County. Old clerk material describes ledgers, minutes, dockets, fines, fees, costs, and restitution accounts. County preservation notes also record the courthouse's original 1896 bell-tower structure. That history is not a public index. Henry County offers no official online index reaching back to pre-digital court case records.
So go to the clerk prepared. Name the court and the rough year. Give the party's role, the record type, and any docket reference you hold. Then ask where the item sits today: with the clerk, in county archives, or with another repository. A no-hit portal result means little here. It says almost nothing about an old paper case. The clerk may have to check minute books or ledgers that were never indexed for anonymous online access.
Courtroom audio is a separate question. The clerk's office history page carries older descriptions of recording equipment and video presentation. That history grants no current right to recordings. Ask whether a transcript or recording exists, who holds it, how long it is kept, what it costs, and whether a court order applies.
The official Circuit clerk office description documents the office's docket and minute duties.

Use the clerk-first route when an older Henry County record is missing from the public index. The office profile points that way.
Copy Fees and Certification
A plain copy just reproduces a page. A certified copy adds the clerk's seal. Recipients who require authentication need that version, so ask what form they need before ordering. Statewide court-fee rules list 50 cents per copy page. Certification, seal, abstract, or driver-license certification costs $5 under the cited Tennessee provisions. Treat those figures as reference points, not a guaranteed final Henry County quote.
| Item | Published reference |
|---|---|
| Trial-court page copy | $0.50 per page; verify current local application |
| Certification, seal, or abstract | $5; confirm whether charged per document |
| Archive or records-management charge | Ask clerk; local amount not extracted |
| Postage, transcript, media, or search work | Ask custodian for a current quote |
Henry County's August 2025 commission packet discusses an archives and records-management fee. The packet states no current local amount. Separate online court-payment instructions cover court balances with cash, cards, internet payment, certified checks, and money orders. Those instructions do not prove record-copy charges run through the same system. Personal checks are not accepted under them.
The county request page shows the broader inspection route.

That policy shapes a narrow request; the clerk still controls the case file.
Henry County Redacted Court Files
Electronic access does not open every identifier. Tennessee's Rule 46 tells filers what to redact. The list covers most Social Security digits, minor-child identifiers, most of a birth date, financial account digits, full home addresses, and protected medical information. A public Henry County docket may still confirm that an event happened. The supporting paper may be gone or redacted.
Juvenile material sits behind a narrower door than ordinary adult court records. Some routes exist for authorized parties alone. Counsel, agencies, courts, and others allowed by law or court order may have access the public lacks. Contact the Circuit Court Clerk to seek that access. Be ready to establish your authority. Do not treat a missing public juvenile entry as a portal error.
Expungement is a court process. Do not guess it from a no-hit search. The AOC expungement guidance says a request is filed where the case began. The official EX-1 form asks for Circuit and General Sessions docket numbers when relevant. A missing record alone does not prove that an expungement occurred.
The official Rule 34 page illustrates the governing access framework.

Rule 34 keeps access public but allows exceptions for law, protective orders, sealing, and judicial needs.
Access Rules for Court Records
Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 34 covers Case Records, Administrative Records, and Judicial Records. Public access is the starting point. The rule still carves out statutory exceptions, sealed or protected material, unpublished drafts, judicial deliberation, internal case-management records, and records whose release would impede the judicial function. Henry County's policy adds its own citation. It points to Tennessee Code Annotated section 10-7-503(g), which lets Tennessee citizens inspect public records during business hours. Exceptions still apply.
Key rules:
Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 34 sets the court-record access framework and its exceptions.
Tennessee Code Annotated ยง10-7-503(g) supports the county's citizen inspection policy.
Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 46A recognizes adopted e-filing systems but does not make every filing anonymously downloadable.
The Tennessee Comptroller notes that an agency may ask for proof of state citizenship. The statutory right belongs to Tennessee citizens. An agency may still choose to serve noncitizens. If access is denied, ask for the legal basis. Also ask whether a redacted or inspection-only version can be provided.
The Tennessee Public Records Act FAQ gives the statewide request context.

That guidance aids the clerk route; it does not merge Circuit, Chancery, and municipal custody.
Henry County Record Request Script
Keep your Henry County record request tight. Name the court, the case number, the rough filing year, and the case type. Add the party's role and the exact document you want. Then tell the clerk your plan. You might inspect the file, buy plain copies, or need clerk-certified copies. For a specific filing, give its name and approximate filing date. A name-only search should include a date range and court type.
This script works well when you call or write: "I am requesting inspection or copies of the Circuit, General Sessions, Chancery, or municipal court record for the identified case. I need the docket history, named filing, final judgment, or certified copy. Please confirm current copy, certification, archive, and delivery fees. Ask about any redaction too. State whether the request should be made in person or by mail."
Paris municipal copies are different. They go through the city's Form A procedure and its proof-of-Tennessee-citizenship rule. County court files do not route through Paris City Hall on their own. Paying a case balance does not order a document either. Keep the payment receipt, the copy request, and the clerk's response as three separate records.
Note: Chancery contact details can shift. Confirm the best telephone number and mailing route before you send money or original documents.
